The Soc Cal Freshman Invitational is the most prestigious freshman tournament in Southern California. The kids who place and especially make it to the finals are oftentimes the kids we see at the county finals and placing at the state meet in the coming years. Cade Johnston overcame a huge obstacle by taking out a ranked wrestler who is from a southern section school, Chaparral High School, in the semifinals with a pin. In the finals match he worked extremely hard but lost his match by decision to a wrestler from Granite Hills who is ranked in the top 40 in the state. He was in the fight the entire match and never quit and never stopped working to score. Although this is a freshman tournament, due to its difficulty level, this tournament elevates Cade's rankings in the county for our CIF Divisional and Masters meets. Cade has grown tremendously this season and it is now clear that he is one of the best wrestlers in the county.
Great job, Cade and all of our wrestlers! This weekend our wrestlers will be close to home. The boys will be at Escondido High School beginning at 9:00 am. Come on out and cheer on this hard-working group!
GO EAGLES!
